NFFU Spring knitting, sewing and crochet campaign 2026.

Can you help with knitting, sewing or crochet?

As we consider the time needed for making and delivery, we are now turning our thoughts to lighter garments and items for Spring. Many suitable knitting and crochet patterns are available online.

If you have any knitted or crocheted winter garments, please bring or send them to us no later than the end of January.

 

If posting items, please include a note inside the parcel with your first name, surname and address, and send to:

If dropping off at the Hub to please place items in the drop off box under the stairs and please leave your details.

Items We Need Going Forward

For Babies

Baby Boxes (year-round)

  • Booties, mitts, jackets, cardigans and hats (size 0–3 months)

    • Please firmly join booties and mitts in pairs

    • We currently have plenty of hats

Small Toys

  • Knitted, crocheted or fabric toys (teddies, dolls, octopuses, etc.)

  • Must fit into a shoebox (approx. 6–8 inches tall)

  • Embroidered facial features only

Baby Blankets

  • Close stitches only (no holes)

  • Approx. 28 x 28 inches, large enough to wrap a baby fully

For New Mums

  • Knitted, crocheted, felt or fabric hearts, sunflowers or similar

  • Small unused toiletry or cosmetic items, such as:

    • Soap, hand cream, shampoo

    • Lipstick or lip balm

Important Note – Premature Babies

 

We have been advised by the CEO of the Ukrainian premature baby charity that knitted clothes for premature babies are not wanted.

However, the following are needed:

  • Good-sized blankets (see above)

  • Bonding squares

  • Crocheted octopuses

    • Must be made from cotton yarn (non-stretch)

    • Embroidered facial features only

Other Vital Baby & Mum Supplies

  • New baby grows (or very good condition used), all sizes

    • Especially 9–12 months

  • Preterm sleepsuits, hats and scratch mitts

  • New pants and vests (all sizes)

  • New dummies/soothers, feeding bottles

  • Baby food and formula

  • Muslin squares and bibs

  • Baby body wash, soap, shampoo, wet wipes

  • Nappies (all sizes, including size 0), nappy sacks, nappy cream

  • Paper pants, breast pads, maternity pads, sanitary wear

  • Pants for mums

  • Calpol and children’s vitamins

For Older Babies, Children, Adults & the Elderly

  • Lighter-weight jumpers, cardigans, tank tops

  • Shawls and stoles

Toys

  • Larger knitted or crocheted animals and dolls

  • Trauma teddies

  • Izzy dolls

  • “Worry worms” (we add a poem translated into Ukrainian)

Blankets

  • Knitted or crocheted blankets of all sizes

    • Baby boxes (no holes or loops)

    • Moses baskets, cots, prams/pushchairs

    • Lap blankets, wheelchair users, single beds

  • Blanket squares or strips

    • Preferred sizes: 6 x 6 inches or 8 x 8 inches

    • Sewn together if possible (we also have volunteers who can help)

Quilts

  • Quilts of all sizes

    • Baby quilts: approx. 24 x 30 inches

    • Children’s quilts: approx. 36 x 42 inches

    • Larger quilts for adults

  • Some quilts are used to cover incubators

  • No embellishments that could come off and be swallowed

Wool & Fabric

  • Knitting wool of all weights (especially double knitting, but also Aran and chunky)

  • Fabrics suitable for quilts, children’s clothing and tote bags

    • These can be collected from the hub by volunteers
